Puberty And The School: The high-school version of Sex and the City
Last spring, I took a little trip to Brno during the Easter weekend. Brno is a nice, little student town in the eastern part of Czech Republic. While there isn't much to do in Brno itself except relax in their cafes, sipping coffee, reading a book and binging on their delicious pastries, there are a lot of areas just outside of Brno for trips into nature. I took a day trip to Lednice castle and walk around the green areas around it as well.
While I was there, I met 4 Bavarian teenage girls from Munich in my hostel. We spent the nights playing drinking games and bantering about our lives. Listening to them and their lives led me to come up with a concept for a possible TV series - Puberty and The School, the high-school version of Sex and the City. So here's the plot of the TV show:
The show is set in a big high school in the heart of a big city, like Munich (because that's where the girls were from), but could be New York or LA too. Just like SATC, the main characters are 4 girls as described below:
Anna is the Samantha Jones of the show. She is confident, strong, and just like Samantha, she is blonde. In line with the self-proclaimed "try-sexual" character of Samantha, Anna will be the one having the most 'flings' in the TV series, always attracting the most good-looking guys, from the ripped and bulked jocks in the high-school football/basketball team to the posh, sensitive, and lanky tennis and polo players.
Lucie is the nerd of the group. She is an academic overachiever and with the curviest body of the lot. She will be the equivalent of Miranda Hobbes in the group. However, Lucie's character in the show will deviate from Miranda's a bit. While Miranda was the most distrustful of men and struggled with relationships and men, in general, PATS will explore how Lucie is a trusting and sweet girl, looking to explore, romantically as well as sexually, but ends up with a string of bad guys, who just want her for her body, which eventually leads her to become like Miranda Jones as an adult.
Mellie will be the girl who has recently joined the high-school at the beginning of the show. She has had a typical and privileged upbringing in a relatively smaller city in a rich and classy family. Her family has recently moved to the big city and she has just joined the school. She is the kind of girl who will be the student body president, super-involved in cultural activities and the kind of girl who is typically perceived as the teacher's pet in the beginning. Over time, as she spends more time with the girls, it turns out that she just keeps that image as a facade and another side of her begins to reveal itself. Just like SATC, Mellie is the antithesis to Anna. She is optimistic and hopelessly romantic. She will end up in a stable relationship in much of the later seasons. She will also be the pot smoker of the group, as she will need to release all the stress from keeping up her Ms. Picture-perfect image and at the same, explore the naughty things in life with the girls.
At last, Sarah will be the Carrie Bradshaw of the show. In a bit of deviation from SATC, she will be sassy and short, instead of skinny and tall. She will be the editor and a writer for the school's editorial, and just like Carrie, have a pretty cool collection of shoes. She'll also be the "Basic White Girl" of the lot. She will often attribute a person's behavior to their horoscope signs, obsess over yoga and yoga pants, and overspend on brands way beyond her pocket money and her part-time job at a bookstore. In a parallel to SATC, she'll be involved in an on-again-off-again relationship with a Mr. Big.
