The Birthday Blog Post
The past couple of months have been quite monotonous at best. Initially, it was the vacation hangover after a couple of fun weeks back at home. Subsequently, it was the gloomy winter days which, unfortunately, don't seem to be going away anytime soon. However, my birthday offered a very timely opportunity to shake things up a bit. Hopefully, it also marks the beginning of an exciting few weeks ahead.
Over the past few months, I've mainly been busy doing basically nothing. I've been playing tennis regularly but I seem to be reaching a plateau in terms of skill improvement. Things at work haven't really offered anything exciting either. It's been a slow start of the year at my end and things have just started getting busy over the past fortnight.
As a result, I was quite determined to make the most of my birthday and to break the humdrum. The fact that it came on Holi, an Indian festival that marks the beginning of spring/summer, was all the more reason for me to make something of it.
Things got off to a good start on the evening before my birthday. My flatmates forgot to communicate with each other about who was going to bring the birthday cake. The Argentinian brought a lemon cake and the Russian got a selection of pastries. Tea and Oreo pastry for dinner was all I needed to kick things off the right way.
I decided to take the day off from work and spend it treating myself. The day started with an early morning session of football. Later, I indulged in a slow breakfast - chocolate brownie and Coconut Cappucino at Starbucks (yes, I'm one of those who drinks coffee there) and read another one of Sherlock Holmes' adventures on my Kindleman (yes, it has a name). I went shopping later and bought a few shirts for work and a hoodie. 3 things I learned from this shopping experience:

I went shopping later and bought a few shirts for work and a hoodie. 3 things I learned from this shopping experience:
- C&A has abysmal clothes. The quality, as well as the fit, is terrible and I'm never buying anything from that store, ever.
- Zara thinks the whole world is super skinny AF. I mean, seriously, I'm not that fat. I know I need to tame my chocolate consumption but trying clothes almost made me hate myself for eating that chocolate brownie for breakfast.
- Heavy Tools is THE brand to buy hoodies from. This is my second one from there. They're the perfect blend of comfort and subtle style.
Later, I went to St. Gellert for the thermal baths and sauna. Trying out St. Gellert had been on my list for a while and this was the perfect day to treat myself and escape from the intensely cold weather. It had been snowing at regular intervals for a while and it snowed a lot on Friday as well.
Dinner was a thin crust pizza from "Pizza Me". I got a large pizza that we split unequally between Anna, Manuel and I. Manuel got one slice less since he turned up really late for dinner.
I organized a small get together in the evening with my closest friends in Budapest. We grabbed a few drinks at Ankert, one of my favourite bars/nightclubs in the city and they were playing music from 70's, 80's and 90's. We also cut the cake that Manuel had brought the evening before. Interesting fact - I'm supposed to wait till everyone finishes singing the birthday song and then blow out the candles and cut the cake. Till now, I had always done them in parallel - blowing out the candles and cutting the cake while everyone sings.
I woke up the next day with a terrible hangover but deep down, I was filled with happiness, knowing that it had been a birthday well spent. I rarely ever mention it but I do feel quite blessed to have the kind of friends and family that I have. I do miss my family and friends back home, and the ones spread all over the world. All of your wishes mean a lot to me.
Hopefully, this weekend will mark the beginning of good times to come ahead. I am headed to Ljubljana and Lake Bled (Slovenia) in a couple of weeks and Brno (Czech Republic) for the Easter weekend. Later, I'll also head to Belgrade for the Labor day weekend. In addition, things seem to be picking up at work and I'm bracing for a couple of interesting months ahead. I'm eagerly waiting for the summer as well. I have a few plans in the making. However, it's a bit too early to disclose them. All I can say is that I've had an amazing birthday and I really hope the rest of the year turns out to be just as amazing.
