Someday....

My alma mater, IIIT Delhi, held its alumni meet recently and unfortunately I couldn't make it. Despite the absence, I couldn't help but think of my good old engineering days. When all our worries boiled down to finishing the assignments, finding liquor and if possible, a girlfriend too. With time, me and my friends managed to get all those three things right too (I guess). Anyway, I was just missing the good ol' days and I thought I'd write a bit of crappy poetry to just summarise them in a few words.

Someday

Someday, we'll sit down, just me and you
Talk about life, good things and bad ones too
It's been a while since we took a break together
To make fun of each other and bitch about the weather
There were times in the past, when we met everyday
Old monk, hookah and assignments were the issues we faced
My random theories, Karan's slip of tongue and RV's crazy hair
In that old white beauty, Murcielago, without a music system and power brakes
We went through engineering in our own different ways
But partied, fought and laughed together on submission and post exam days
We had our infamous names: Sushi, KGB, Charsi and RV-X
Gullu-T and Kash were there too, "the billionaires" club in Finance class
Like all good things, IIIT days came to an end.
KGB didn't burn me to crisp and I didn't beat him to death.
RV cut his long hair and Kash became a Japanese pest
And I'm writing this shitty piece of poetry, sitting in Budapest.
The only constant in life is change and so the days will never be same
But I hope we will sit together one day, toast to the past from where we came
Crack the same old jokes, pull the same old legs again
Someday, my friends, we will get together. All of us, again.

Sushant Mehta
Although it's a shitty piece of poetry, I hope you enjoyed it.

P.S. - I belong to Class of 2014, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi. It is one of the best places in India that you would want to pursue engineering. I'm not saying this as a marketing gimmick or because I was there. It's just something about that place that makes you leave it feeling this way and I believe every single person that graduated with me can also say the same with pride.
